What will be the differences between a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV and a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV?

The year 2024 will be the year of Chevrolet's first major electric revolution. In addition to the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV models that are already in the lineup, three other all-electric vehicles will join the ranks of the brand's electric division. We're talking about the Silverado pickup, but also battery-powered versions of the Equinox and Blazer models.

If you're wondering what will differentiate the 2024 Equinox EV and 2023 Blazer EV, two products that will be introduced in 2023, here's a bit of what to expect.

The Platform

Let's start with what the models share, because it matters. The new electric vehicles that will be coming out of General Motors will be based on the Ultium platform, a modular structure that can serve a number of different vehicles. The advantage is that it allows for cost reduction across the family, which allows us to offer you affordable, high-performance electric vehicles.

The Format

While the two vehicles we are talking about here have familiar names, their dimensions are somewhat different. Due to their configuration and the positioning of their respective batteries, both SUVs sit closer to the ground, which is promising for handling and road manners.

As before, the Equinox will be the smaller of the two, while the Blazer will return to a mid-size rather than a compact form factor.

Drive wheel

Both vehicles will offer configurations where the front wheels will be responsible for traction, or all four wheels with all-wheel drive. The difference is that the Blazer will offer a third option, rear-wheel drive only, making it the only model on the market to offer front- and all-wheel drive as well as rear-wheel drive.

Performance

Both models will offer great performance, but if you're looking for a really sporty SUV, the Blazer is the one to look at. Indeed, Chevrolet will offer an SS version that will deliver a maximum of 557 horsepower and 648 lb-ft of torque for mind-boggling performance. The power will be 290 horsepower with an Equinox with all-wheel drive, to give you an idea of the difference.

Charging

Basically, it will be similar from one model to another, but it's worth mentioning that on a Level 3 charging station, the Blazer EV will be able to operate at a maximum capacity of 190 kW, while the Equinox EV is limited to 150 kW. On a level 2 terminal, both models offer a capacity of 11.5 kW, but the 3RS e-AWD variant of the Equinox has a capacity of 19.2 kW.

In conclusion, there will be two models capable of serving different needs. For more power and cargo volume, the Blazer EV will be the right choice. For more urban use and a lower cost of ownership to maximize savings, the Equinox EV will be the better selection.

It's a win-win situation.
